An Overview


Apple Tree Montessori School offers a unique learning environment that affords students the opportunity to realize their full academic potential. The Montessori curriculum which includes Language Arts, Mathematics, Geography, and Science allows each student to progress at their individual level through a teacher-guided learning approach. The student learns to manage time effectively while being responsible for completing the lessons in each academic area.

The traditional time presents a highly challenging academic curriculum including Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies/History, Science and Spanish.  The traditional curriculum is presented in a group setting allowing students to be an active participant in a group educational setting.
The Montessori ideals recognize the entire individual, mind, spirit and body, for this reason the students receive daily Physical Education Classes.
Apple Tree Montessori School has a highly qualified, motivated staff that is concerned about each individual student. The low student/ teacher ratio allows teachers to know students personally and to realize each student’s educational requirements. The Goal of each staff member is to provide every student with a positive educational experience that enables the student to be a productive member of society.

Reading

An essential part of any child's education is to develop a strong reading foundation. Teachers focus on developing phonics, vocabulary decoding, oral reading, word attack skills and reading comprehension skills. Students progress into more fluent and expressive readers and from this point they are introduced to a variety of literature through both group and individual reading activities.

Language Arts

Basic writing techniques begin with developing word identification, spelling, handwriting and grammer rules. As a child masters these he/she will begin focusing on writing structure and word function. Assignments such as those which use the dictionary and book reports will provide students with the skills needed to successfully format and present a report on a given topic. This report will focus on writing ability as well as an oral presentation requiring visual aids.

Mathematics

Students are introduced to the math curriculum through a material based hands-on approach. Mathematical concepts begin with basic sorting, graphing and cardinal numbers to 100. Mathematical computation, simple fractions and geometry follow in an age appropriate sequence. As he/she develops mathematical thinking skills multiplication, division, estimating and decimals are introduced. Problem solving, critical thinking and complex mathematical computation continue to be developed through applied mathematics.

Science

The science curriculum focuses on physical, earth, life and health science. Students begin with the creation of the universe and progress to the impact that we as humans are having on the environment today. He/she will learn about plant and animal life and the importance of protecting each for our future. A healthy body and mind are emphasized through health science topics. Studies in nutrition, proper exercise and global health prospective along with adolescent biology are presented to the students.

Geography/Social Sudies

Teachers introduce the world to the students by examining the seven continents. The students study in depth each of the continents learning about its location, landformations, economy, and people. Our yearly International Day celebration gives students the opportunity to share their knowledge about a particular country and its people.

The history and ideals of America are at the forefront of the Social Studies curriculum. The students learn about the struggles and triumphs which our country has experienced both internationally and globally and the sacrifices which have been made on our behalf.

Spanish

Students focus on basic vocabulary, language pronunciation, calendar use, numbers, greetings and cultural awareness in the Spanish class. As a student progresses, reading is developed as well as written aspects of the Spanish language. Daily conversational experiences allow the student to develop his/her skills.

Physical Education

Students participate daily in a highly structured Physical Education program which develops motor skills. The students participate in both individual as well as cooperative sports activities.

Music and Art

Listening to classical music provides the perfect transistion between recess and the traditional afternoon agenda. The Great Artists of time and their works are introduced to the students in the classroom and through extracurricular opportunities. During the school year students will work on a variety of art activities. Music and movement combine in the end of the year show as our students become stars for the day.
